That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former MLS star Alejandro Moreno.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton for £75million at the beginning of the month, a world-record fee for a defender.
The Dutchman made his debut in the FA Cup clash against Merseyside rivals Everton last night, scoring the winner in the 2-1 win at Anfield.
But Moreno claims the same problems were apparent in the Liverpool defence from before Van Dijk arrived at the club.
He reckons manager Jurgen Klopp still needs to look at strengthening other areas of the back four.
“What I would say is that you’ve got Virgil van Dijk right,” Moreno said.
“He’s supposed to be a solution to your problems and it still was 1-0 and Liverpool were controlling the game and somehow they allowed a team like Everton, who didn’t do much in the match, back into the game.
“So the issues are still there, this is one important piece.
“But it doesn’t solve all the issues for Liverpool defensively.
“They’re still going to allow chances, they’re still going to allow teams back in games.
“We saw that today.”
