Do Kate Middleton and Prince William have a prenup? Will Meghan Markle sign one? | Life | Life & Style

Kate Middleton and Prince William, both 35, have been married for six years and have two adorable children, Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two.

They have another baby on the way, which is due in April.

The couple’s fairytale romance captured the hearts of Britons and those overseas. However, many couples choose to take precautions just in case things don’t work out.

In this case they might sign a prenup before they tie the knot – to ensure things go smoothly if they split.

What is a prenup or prenuptial agreement?

A prenuptial agreement is a legal contract signed before a marriage. It usually regards the division of assets if the couple divorce in the future.

It can also include stipulations about how the division of assets might change if there is adultery.

Prince William reportedly has a net worth of £30m, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and Prince Harry is worth the same amount.

Have the Princes considered a prenup before marrying their brides?

Kate and William did not have a prenuptial agreement before they married, news confirmed on 1 May 2011.

The Mail Online reported that no “legally binding document was drawn up before the wedding.”

Will Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, sign a prenup?

Kim Aucott told  “Harry will be guided by his father, the Prince of Wales and his brother – neither had prenups.

“Even after Charles’ horrific divorce with Diana, he chose not to take out a prenup.

“He will be guided by family, despite advisors around him saying you should think about this.”

She added that she would advise couples in a similar position to consider a prenup, adding: “I would have said anyone in their position should be advised to have prenup.

“And the reason being is so they can resolve financial matters between themselves without it being in the spotlight.”

What might Kate Middleton call the next royal baby? The names with the best odds, according to William Hill, are Alice (8/1), Victoria (9/1) and Arthur (9/1).

Alice was 23rd most popular in Nameberry’s 100 most popular names for girls and boys for the first half of 2017.
