Earlier this month, the former five-weight world champion claimed he was in negotiations to make a shock appearance inside the cage.
“You already know I’m a money-getting motherf**ker,” Mayweather said during an Instagram live broadcast. “I’m Money May.
“They just called me not too long ago and asked me to come back. I can come right back to the UFC.
“If I want, I can go, I can come right back to the UFC, I can go fight in the Octagon.
“I can do a three or four fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars. Remember, I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, and you motherf**kers love me, and I love you motherf**kers.”
Mayweather’s comments were dismissed by many and interpreted as the boxer attempting to keep himself in the limelight.
But according to Rogan, 40-year-old Mayweather has held serious talks with UFC president Dana White.
“This is one thing I can tell you,” he said during the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. “Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC, legitimately.
“I texted him, I go ‘is Floyd really talking about fighting in MMA?’
“He goes ‘Yeah, he’s f—— crazy, I told him he’d get killed but he’s still talking about it.'”
Rogan’s bold claim has inevitably led to combat sports fans assuming that Mayweather will try to pursue a fight with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, whom he defeated in a boxing match in August.
The likelihood of Mayweather facing McGregor in the near future are very slim given the fact the latter has yet to defend his 155lbs title, which he claimed in November 2016.
