The ex-England international scored his 10th goal of the season as the Toffees beat Swansea 3-1 at Goodison Park.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Gylfi Sigurdsson also chipped in with a goal apiece as Everton picked up their fifth win in the last six games.
During the post-match interview live on Sky Sports, Carragher asked Rooney if he was looking forward to joining him as a pundit next week.
The striker responded by praising John Terry, who was also a pundit on the show, before mocking Carragher for his choice of attire.
“I saw an interview before the game where you two were in your casual gear and I have to say JT was looking okay,” Rooney said.
“But Carra – your top was horrendous.”
To which Carragher quipped: “A bit like your hairline.”
Terry then quickly diverted the conversation away by saying “let’s not get talking about hairlines.”
The topic is a touchy subject for Rooney who has previously had treatment to quell his receding hairline.
It is reported the 32-year-old spent around £30,000 having corrective treatment in 2011.
And at the time Rooney tweeted: “I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 and thought why not. I’m delighted with the result.
“I had it done in Harley street hair clinic London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.”
