Frank Lampard has told talkSPORT Chelsea are far better equipped than Liverpool to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

The two teams are separated by just three points ahead of Saturday’s clash at Anfield but Lampard insists only one of them are capable of running leaders City close this season.

Speaking on the Weekend Sports Breakfast, the former Blues and England star said: “This is not just me with my Chelsea hat on, but Chelsea would be better prepared as a squad than anyone to take Man City close.

“I think Man City are going to go on and win it and they have opened up a gap and deservedly so. The only thing you can say about Chelsea is they haven’t added to their squad and improved as others have, particularly Man City.

“They had a great year last year but they knew this year was going to bring different challenges with the European football as well as the Premier League.

“I think they will struggle long-haul to catch Man City in terms of squad depth, although I think their first 11 can pretty much compares with anybody in the league.

“With Liverpool, personnel-wise it the same old story. They haven’t quite improved. They haven’t brought the players in the back four and maybe in goal to match what they have got in an attacking sense. Until they do that, they are forever going to be short of challenging for the title.”
